Being toxic is not an innate human nature or a label to someone’s outlook in life. We are all capable of being toxic for we are all capable of feeling shame, guilt, fear, selfishness, etc. The toxicity of a person can stem from these negative emotions, and without willing intervention, the harder it is to regain oneself.
Accountability entails acknowledgment of your lapses. It means owning up to your mistakes even when it’s embarrassing and scary. Accountability means having the courage to say it’s your fault and to accept all the necessary consequences to come at you in the same degree of pain you’ve caused them.
Accountability means showing respect for your words and deeds by owning them and fixing the consequences if necessary. When you hold yourself accountable, it means you’re living in integrity. What you do when nobody else is looking measures how truthful you are. Accountability shows whether your beliefs, values, and attitudes are aligned with your morals and principles.
Many of us insist that a lot of us don’t attain our goals because of poor goal-setting, attitude, and habit. While that may be true, it’s not simply the planning stage that determines the likelihood of getting the desired result. Other critical stages such as transitioning and executing objectives are pivotal to guarantee success. Goal-setting is a significant foundation to fulfilling your life’s aspirations. If you do not narrow down your goals and specify them according to four important areas in your life (wealth, relationships, health, self-fulfillment, or happiness), then you wouldn’t be able to measure how long it takes to achieve your dream and the necessary actions it takes to get there.
There’s no escaping the influence of social media, despite its perks and compromises, as it is now deeply rooted in every human interaction and livelihood in this digital age. Almost every human activity involves the use of social media, from manufacturing to promoting products and services in the business industry to communicating with people online. Given its huge grasp on us, we must never forget that social media doesn’t encompass our entire life.
It’s easier said than done to discipline yourself of your screen time because it has already come second nature to us. Every person’s worst nightmare is when his plans don’t end up as he expected. There’s nothing more frustrating than going against all odds to risk your resources and pride for your dreams but not meeting the desired outcome. Aside from feeling disappointed in yourself, you would feel stupid and pathetic for going through all that trouble only to go back from scratch, or worse, move the finish line farther away.
Your ego is hurt because your sincere efforts are put to waste, and you don’t want anybody to know you failed. You start keeping your adversity as a secret to protect your reputation, and this is one of the reasons you won’t grow. Clouds of negative thought hover over the little hope and then you start taking in the doubts to break you even harder. Little do you know, you start believing all these other voices and thinking maybe you’re a fool for chasing after your dream.
